Now 2013 has arrived its time to briefly review what happened here in 2012. Thankfully, it was a quieter year for rescue than the previous year. JSIR rehomed directly from our base in Shropshire, a total of 10 dogs - 8 were new, 2 were dogs we had previously homed but came back thro' no fault of their own. We also assisted owners rehome another 6 shibas. There were all the usual reasons for these dogs needing to be rehomed - illness, change of personal circumstances being the main reasons, but theres a worrying increase in the number of requests for help from people who have aquired shibas from breeders who obviously havent given the correct information about the breed or offered backup to their dogs when problems have arisen. I've had two shibas here with severe behaviourial issues, sadly one had to be PTS, the other is still on the long road to recovery. On a positive note - support from you guys has been brillant, we had a excellent show of supporters for the Dudley show back in Sept which raised a healthy profit and constant ongoing support for our longterm 'inmate' Stewie. Once again I take this opportunity to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all your support during 2012 and wish you and your shibas happiness and good times in 2013. xxx

It's that time again for an annual review, here briefly is an
overview of rescue activities in 2012. Thankfully, it was a quieter year for
rescue than the previous year. J.S.I.R. re-homed directly from our base in
Shropshire, a total of 10 dogs - 8 were new, 2 were dogs we had previously homed
but came back thro' no fault of their own. We also assisted owners with
re-homing another 8 shibas. There were all the usual reasons for this - illness, death in the family & a
change of personal circumstances being the main reasons.
Despite all contracts being in place, I was horrified to discover one of
our ex rescue dogs -
‘Whiskey’, being
advertised for sale on the web at £400 !
Thanks to great efforts and
a dash across the country by two of our supporters, Whiskey was quickly reunited
with us and hopefully is now in his forever
home.
There’s been a worrying increase in the number of requests for
help from people who have acquired shibas from breeders who obviously haven’t
given the correct information about the breed or offered backup to their dogs
when problems have arisen. The
message to all responsible breeders is – Please, Please endorse your puppy
papers to try and prevent indiscriminant breeding by people who have little
knowledge of the shiba, and even less concern for the future of the breed. One glaring example of this is the 3
shiba x’s all from the same litter, all sold to different people but obviously
not the right people as these dogs are only 16 months old now and one is on her
third home! These dogs were breed
by a person in Devon who refuses to take any back or help in anyway, she
apparently breeds these ‘shibaollie’ crosses for agility purposes.
Although this isn’t evident in the homes she is finding for them, as one was sold to pensioners, another
to a family with three children under 5 with another on the way and the third dog
ended up with a teenager in a flat !
I've
had two shibas here with severe behavioral issues, sadly one had to be PTS, and
the other is still on the long road to recovery.
During 2012 I’ve taken many phone calls throughout the year about
‘scammers’ , with several people telling me of their financial losses after
paying money up front and then - surprise, surprise no promised dog
arrives. It really shows just how
unscrupulous these internet scammers are.
On
a positive note – the support for J.S.I.R. has been brilliant, we had an
excellent show of supporters for the Dudley show back in September which raised
