End of Year Rescue Report . 2016 started quietly enough, with just the occasional shiba needing our help, then suddenly mid year things went into overdrive with an unprecedented number of dogs needing assistance. As we approach the year end, this rescue has helped 30 shibas find new homes in 2016 . In several cases , we have saved these dogs from being destroyed. So many dogs needing rescue help is due to several reasons -the top three being; owners ill health , owners change of circumstances & serious behavioural issues. We dealt with a couple of difficult behavioural cases and successfully used professional services to help rehabilitate these dogs , it's costly but it's given the dogs a positive outcome and has saved them from being 'put to sleep '. If success in the rescue world is measured by how many dogs are rehomed, then 2016 has been very successful , as all but one dog has found a new home. (Our recent arrival , Nanook is currently still under assessment ) , but I'd prefer success to be measured by the amount of dogs we didn't have to rehome and hope 2017 will be much quieter for us. We have some amazing supporters in our group and without this ongoing support , rescue couldn't do what we do . I'm always dubious about mentioning individuals as someone always gets accidentally left out but I must say a special thank you to Julie Robertson, who does so much behind the scenes on the admin side and on an almost daily basis keeps me sane when it all gets too stressful. Another huge thank you has to go to Brian Hodgetts , who's artistic talents have been put to great use fundraising for us . The finally thanks has to go to YOU , the person reading this , the person homing a rescue dog , buying a calendar , sharing a Facebook post etc , every little helps and together we make a life changing difference to these dogs . Heartfelt thanks to you all , have a wonderful New Year and may 2017 be a fantastic year for you . Xxx |
